A significant clinical improvement was noticed in most of the included cases
(80.6%). Indeed, we decreased the daily dose of the inhaled corticosteroids in 12
cases.
As regards the skin prick test findings, we observed a significant reduction in the
skin reactivity in (33.33%) of the cases.Besides, the skin prick test became negative
in four allergic cases to house dust mites one year after the SLIT onset. However,
the SLIT did not prevent the patients from the onset of new sensitizations to other
allergens accoording to our results. The allergenic profile changed in (33.33%) of the
included patients during the follow-up. In fact, we noticed new sensitizations in
twelve cases despite a good clinical response. From which, seven new sensitized
cases to timothy grass pollen (TG) , three new sensitized cases to cypress , one
new sensitized case to cat hair and one new sensitized cases to olive trees.
CONCLUSION :
Our study showed a change in the allergenic profile of the patients treated with the
sublingual immunotherapy during the follow-up with new sensitizations to other
allergens despite a good clinical response.Further studies are required in order to
highlight the underlying immune-tolerance mechanisms.
